Facility Management Musts for 2023

Searching for the best ways to stay ahead of the competition and ensure success in 2023 and beyond? We thought so and figured we would offer some suggestions. From automation tools that can streamline processes, to artificial intelligence (AI) technology helping with predictive maintenance—here are some ideas you can use to run your facility more efficiently than ever in 2023.

Automation & Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology

We do not need to tell you how hard it is to find—and keep—good people on your facilities' team. So why waste the precious, talented people you DO have on tasks that technology can take care of for you?

For example:

  • Robotic autonomous floor machines mean your staff doesn't need to waste precious time on laborious, programmable chores—like sweeping and mopping the hallways. Instead, you've freed them up for more important and intricate tasks.
  • Keep your team in the know—no more surprises with empty soap and paper towel dispensers! Install smart sensors that alert your team when supplies are running low, so everyone can stay ahead of restocking needs and not waste time servicing areas that don't need it.

With automation leading the charge, greater productivity awaits you in this brave new world.

Speaking of brave new worlds, instead of something to fear or to be wary of, artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing facility management, providing a huge opportunity to rethink the way things are done—and ultimately get more done.

For example:

  • AI-powered robots can make quick work of inspections and maintenance tasks with reduced costs and increased efficiency—something thought impossible only years ago!
  • AI technology can analyze the data in the smart sensors installed in the bathrooms mentioned earlier, and optimize your staff's cleaning route and schedule based on usage and trends. (We did this recently for Christiana Mall with GREAT results.)

There are limitless possibilities when it comes to the ever-learning and evolving power of AI, so embrace it and discover how it can work for you!

Supply Chain Management

In the high-level sense as it pertains to your facility, supply chain management (SCM) means managing all aspects of your supply chain—from materials sourcing to purchasing to delivery—ensuring quality while streamlining operations and maintaining cost-efficiency.

Due to the pandemic, inflation, and the hundreds of other things that have happened over the last few years, you know that it's more complicated than ever before to get what you need when you need it.

How many times this year have you gone to order something from your usual vendor only to discover it's out of stock? Then what? You either suck it up and go with a different product (for a possibly different price and quality level) or spend who-knows-how-long looking for the same product in stock somewhere else.

With Action, our experts are here to absorb that supply chain management stress for you. We've cultivated relationships with hundreds of vendors over our 40 years in business—not to mention our stock of over 60,000 products—so we're always able to get you the supplies your facility needs—when you need them—for a great price.

Planned Maintenance

At a high level, planned maintenance refers to a systematic approach to identifying potential problems before they arise and addressing them proactively rather than waiting for something to break down before fixing it. In real speak, having a plan for your equipment is critical because it is going to save you time, money, and downtime.

By regularly inspecting equipment and performing preventive maintenance tasks such as lubricating moving parts or replacing worn components, you do not have to worry about your floor machine not working at the start of a big project; leaving you helpless.

Additionally, just like getting the oil changed in your car regularly, planned maintenance helps extend the lifespan of machinery and equipment—so the autonomous floor scrubber you're thinking hard about from earlier can be a VERY long-lasting investment.

Don't have onsite techs to handle this sort of thing? You can find more info about our repairs and planned maintenance programs here. Or skip a step and email our resident repair expert Wayne directly at wdippold@actioncleanup.com and ask him about creating a custom planned maintenance plan of your own. He'll get back to you ASAP :)
