Taking the COVID-19 Fight to the Air

As a society, we’ve figured out many ways to kill COVID on surfaces, but as we’ve all learned, COVID can also be transmitted in the air. But there are several problems with spraying sanitizers and disinfectants in the air:

Toxicity

Most sanitizers and disinfectants contain toxic chemicals, so any room being treated would have to be cleared of people, pets, plants, food, etc. for up to 10 minutes in some cases. And as soon as people come back into the treated room, the air instantly becomes contaminated again.

Sticky Residue

Most sanitizers and disinfectants leave behind a sticky residue, so spraying it into the air and letting it fall on everything isn’t practical. After all, no one wants a sticky computer mouse or keyboard.

Wiping Takes Time

Even if you didn’t mind clearing a room for 10 minutes, and even if you didn’t mind the sticky residue left behind after spraying a room, most sanitizers and disinfectants require a wiping step to effectively kill all the harmful pathogens left behind. So, it’s not practical to spray most sanitizers and disinfectants into a large room just to have to go back and wipe down all the surfaces.

Strong Fumes

Spraying toxic chemicals into the air creates very strong fumes that can cause headaches and nausea in many people. And doing this on a daily basis compounds this problem further.

The Solution

The solution to all these problems is using an ultrasonic humidifier to slowly release a non-toxic, hypochlorous-based sanitizer into the air. Hypochlorous, also known as hypochlorous acid, or HOCl, is a natural substance produced in our white blood cells to fight germs. It has been widely used as a sanitizer and a wound care agent since World War I.

Hypochlorous-based sanitizers have been proven to be as effective as bleach in fighting pathogens, but with none of the harmful side effects. It’s completely safe to use around people, pets, plants, food, electronics, etc. It leaves no sticky residue, requires no wiping, and leaves no strong fumes.

And because ultrasonic humidifiers release the sanitizer in such microscopic particles, the process is often called “dry fogging,” because there is no moisture left behind on any surfaces in rooms being treated.
